Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is planning to position Indonesia as a content powerhouse, bringing local culture, characters, and stories into creative works that penetrate the global market.
"We do not want Indonesia to merely become a market for global content; it must become a content powerhouse," Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya said at the launch of Nusantara Rising, initiated by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, Indonesia possesses abundant culture, talent, and creativity with the potential as an economic strength and a source of influence on the global stage.
Therefore, the government and other stakeholders need to tap into this potential to ensure Indonesian creative works contribute to national identity, pride, and broader economic benefits.
Harsya said the development of the creative economy sector requires collaboration between the government, business, academia, media, and communities.
In addition, the target of becoming a content powerhouse must be supported by strengthening the creative economy ecosystem, particularly by providing financing for creators with established business models who need capital to expand.
To expand access to financing, Harsya hopes that Nusantara Rising can facilitate economy players through co-production and co-investment schemes to expand access to capital, technology, and markets, both nationally and globally.
On Friday, Kadin launched Nusantara Rising: Indonesia's Collective Soft Power Movement, a collaborative movement to strengthen the influence of Indonesian culture globally.
Kadin Deputy Chairperson for Culture, Rahayu Saraswati, said the initiative is a follow-up to the Indonesia Soft Power Paper, initiated by Kadin in collaboration with industry players and various stakeholders.
According to her, Indonesia’s cultural wealth spans thousands of ethnic groups and traditions, hundreds of regional languages, and diverse forms of folklore, music, dance, cuisine, and tourism.
Sara said cultural heritage can serve as more than a source of identity, describing it as a resource that can fuel creativity, economic growth, and global influence.
She added that the creative economy plays a key role in turning that cultural wealth into economic and global value.
