Malay Language Facts
The Malay language, also called Bahasa Melayu, is the official language of Malaysia and Brunei and is spoken by approximately 20 Million people. It is one of the four official languages of Singapore, and is also spoken in other countries such as Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates. It is very similar to Bahasa Indonesia, the official language of Indonesia.
In Malaysia, it is known as Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Malaysia, which means the Malaysian language. Indonesia adopted a form of Malay as its official language upon independence, naming it Bahasa Indonesia. In Singapore and Brunei it is known simply as Malay or Bahasa Melayu.
Malay is normally written using the Roman alphabet, although a modified Arabic script called Jawi also exist but until today as we know no phrase translation tool from bahasa melayu to english.
