Global Jihad, Bunuh 5,042 Orang Dalam November 2014

A ground-breaking study from the BBC World Service and the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) has revealed that a shocking 664 jihadist terror attacks were carried out around the world in November 2014 alone, resulting in the deaths of more than 5,042 people. The worst single day was Sunday, November 2, when 410 people were killed in 41 attacks across the planet. This equates to an average of 22 attacks a day and 168 deaths as a result of jihadist related violence.

16 jihadist groups were responsible for the bloodshed. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was the deadliest group, launching 308 attacks across Iraq and Syria which left 2,206 people dead – 44% of the total fatalities. Second came Boko Haram, which has been terrorizing Nigeria and Cameroon, who carried 30 attacks and killed 801 people. Some 151 incidents were attributed to the various Taliban splinter groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan in which 720 people died.

The four countries worst affected by jihadist strikes – Iraq, Nigeria, Syria and Afghanistan – accounted for 4,031, or 80%, of all deaths. Iraq bore the brunt with 1,770 people – mostly military or civilian – killed, followed by Nigeria (786), Afghanistan (782) and Syria (693). Other nations terribly blighted by jihadist terrorism included Yemen (410), Somalia (212) and Pakistan (212), where Al Qaeda offshoots operate with deadly menace.

What jihadists can do to a country

Peter Neumann, director of the ICSR, based at Kings College, London, said: "The data highlights the significant human cost of jihadism. It also makes clear that jihadists and Al Qaeda are no longer one and the same. In short, Al Qaeda is no longer the leading jihadist group, and 60% of jihadist deaths were caused by groups that have no formal association with al Qaeda. The overall picture is that of an increasingly ambitious, complex, sophisticated and far-reaching movement.

"It seems obvious that the jihadist movement - which, only three years ago, everyone expected to be in a state of terminal decline - are stronger than ever, and that countering them will be a generational challenge." Andrew Whitehead, of BBC World Service News, said: "Every week, every day, acts of violence by jihadist groups are making news headlines. With this initiative, we are seeking to find out more about the overall impact of those groups pursuing violence in the name of jihad."

120 maut ketika solat Jumaat

KANO 29 Nov. - Sekurang-kurangnya 120 orang terbunuh, manakala 270 lagi cedera selepas dua orang pengebom berani mati meletupkan diri disusuli serangan sekumpulan lelaki bersenjata ketika berlangsungnya solat Jumaat, di sini semalam.

Serangan di Masjid Besar di Kano, bandar raya yang majoriti penduduknya merupakan penganut agama Islam itu, dilancarkan semasa jemaah memulakan solat Jumaat.

Masjid berkenaan bersambung dengan kediaman seorang ulama Islam paling disegani Nigeria iaitu Muhammad Sanusi II yang minggu lalu menggesa orang awam supaya bersatu untuk memerangi kumpulan militan Boko Haram.

Insiden tersebut dilancarkan selepas satu serangan bom yang menyasarkan sebuah lagi masjid di bandar Maiduguri berjaya dipatahkan awal pagi semalam, lima hari selepas dua orang pengebom berani mati wanita membunuh lebih 45 orang penduduk di bandar berkenaan.

Jurucakap polis kebangsaan, Emmanuel Ojukwu memberitahu AFP, dua pengebom berani mati itu meletupkan diri hampir serentak sebelum beberapa orang lelaki bersenjata menembak para jemaah yang cuba melarikan diri.

Ojukwu berkata, beliau tidak dapat memastikan sama ada pengebom terlibat lelaki atau wanita memandangkan Boko Haram kini banyak merekut wanita untuk me*lakukan serangan nekad.

Katanya lagi, orang ramai yang berang dengan serangan itu membunuh empat penembak dalam kekecohan tersebut dengan seorang saksi memberitahu penembak terbabit telah dibakar.

Seorang wartawan AFP memberitahu, seramai 92 orang mangsa yang cedera dirawat di Hospital Murtala Mohammed dengan kebanyakan daripada mereka terdiri daripada jemaah solat Jumaat.
