Backstory..

Hi, former ANW worker here.
It was not staged. It really was a shock to everyone. However he was not just some random guy. He was one of the course testers that we hired to make sure that the obstacles are actually doable and relatively safe. This is why his face isn't blurred because we already had an appearance release from him.
As to why the cameras followed him, that's because they're professional camera ops who get paid good money to follow the action, regardless of what that action is. They were already set up to follow the real contestant so they all just went through the motions.
Anyway, the guy did it as a publicity stunt for his own business or Gym or something. It was a pretty ****** idea and he got nothing out of it.
