Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the Draft Presidential Regulation, a derivative of Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code, will regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (Jan 5), Agtas said Deputy Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej explained that electronic interrogation reports using AI may be applied during examinations to prevent intimidation or violence by investigators or other parties.
According to him, the use of AI will allow statements made by those examined or suspects to be typed automatically, so they will only need to sign them.
He further stated that this will be regulated in the Draft Presidential Regulation on an Information Technology-Based Criminal Justice System.
"We are preparing all these advances for the implementation of our Criminal Procedure Code," he said.
Previously, the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) was signed by President Prabowo Subianto and promulgated by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on December 17, 2025.
Based on Article 369 of the KUHAP, the law has been in effect since January 2, 2026.
Meanwhile, Article 30 of the KUHAP stipulates that the examination of a person suspected of committing a crime must be recorded using surveillance cameras during the examination.
The recording can be used for investigation, prosecution, and defense purposes for the suspect or defendant. However, further regulations need to be stipulated in a Government Regulation.
