Couple attempt suicide but kill daughter instead

PETALING JAYA: Two parents survived two botched suicide attempts.

However, their five-year-old daughter died when the couple tried to kill themselves and their two children.

PJ OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said the 50-something father and 30-something mother first attempted suicide on Sept 11 at their house at Sri Manja Square, off Old Klang Road here.

“They burnt charcoal in the master bedroom before they all went to bed but they were not successful,” he said.

The next day, the parents attempted suicide again. This time they manage to kill their daughter.

"The girl was believed to have died during the second attempt," he told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.

ACP Arjunaidi said the parents took the girl’s body to Klang to find a place to dispose it on September 13,

However, they had to bring back the body to their home when they could not find a suitable place.

On Wednesday morning, the girl’s body was discovered after her kindergarten teacher told her classmate’s parent to check on the girl because she did not turn up for school for five days.

“The parent and her son went to the apartment and rang the bell but no one answered,” said Choo, who is a shop owner at Sri Manja Square.

“The 7-year-old son (of the couple who attempted suicide) opened the door and he told them that his sister was dead. They then found the girl dead in the master bedroom.”

The classmate’s parent then called the police.

"Early investigations showed that the family was facing financial problems. The father, who was a contractor who had no work for almost a month," he said, adding that police also found wire cables in the home.

"We believe that they also planned to hang themselves but we are still investigating," he said.

ACP Arjunaidi said that the victim’s body was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre while her brother was sent to a relative.

He said the case was investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder

ACP Arjunaidi mengatakan orang tua mengambil tubuh gadis itu ke Klang untuk menemukan tempat untuk membuang itu pada tanggal 13 September,

Namun, mereka harus membawa kembali tubuh ke rumah mereka ketika mereka tidak bisa menemukan tempat yang cocok.

Pada hari Rabu pagi, tubuh gadis itu ditemukan setelah guru TK nya kepada orang tua teman sekelasnya untuk memeriksa pada gadis itu karena dia tidak muncul untuk sekolah selama lima hari.

"Para orang tua dan anaknya pergi ke apartemen dan membunyikan bel tapi tidak ada yang menjawab," kata Choo, yang merupakan pemilik toko di Sri Manja Square.

"Anak 7 tahun (dari pasangan yang mencoba bunuh diri) membuka pintu dan dia mengatakan kepada mereka bahwa kakaknya sudah mati. Mereka kemudian menemukan gadis itu mati di kamar tidur utama. "

Orangtua sekelas kemudian menghubungi polisi.

"Penyelidikan awal menunjukkan bahwa keluarga sedang menghadapi masalah keuangan. Sang ayah, yang adalah seorang kontraktor yang tidak memiliki pekerjaan selama hampir satu bulan," katanya, menambahkan bahwa polisi juga menemukan kawat kabel di rumah.

"Kami percaya bahwa mereka juga berencana untuk gantung diri tapi kami sedang melakukan penyelidikan," katanya.

ACP Arjunaidi mengatakan bahwa tubuh korban dikirim ke Universitas Malaya Medical Centre, sementara kakaknya dikirim ke seorang kerabat.
