Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is promoting science-based regional development in Indonesia through the Innovation Village initiative.

A researcher at BRIN's Political Research Center, Siti Zuhro, explained that the concept is designed as an integrated development model driven by science, technology, social innovation, and community empowerment.

Speaking at the "BRIN Goes to Village" event in Jakarta on Thursday, she emphasized that the core vision of the project is to strengthen civilizational values, which must begin with human resource development rather than merely polishing infrastructure.

"The priority is not building physical infrastructure, but focusing more on human resources. Because our big dream for Indonesia—especially as we celebrate our 81st Independence Day this August—is to build a civilization," she explained.

Through the Innovation Village initiative, she added, BRIN aims to shift the development paradigm at the grassroots level. The goal is to move away from programs that rely solely on funding or social assistance, and instead foster community creativity and self-reliance.

BRIN Head Arif Satria outlined that the Innovation Village concept is built on five main pillars: Smart and Innovative Society, Smart and Innovative Economy, Smart and Innovative Governance, Smart and Innovative Living and Environment, and Smart and Innovative Heritage.

These five pillars are designed to create a comprehensive and sustainable village development transformation.

"Through the Innovation Village program, BRIN seeks to ensure that research results deliver tangible benefits to the community," he said.

In response, Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto underscored that village development is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs aimed at bolstering the economy and alleviating poverty.

He noted that the five pillars of the Innovation Village initiative align perfectly with the 12 village development actions launched by his ministry.

"If we pursue this collaboration, it will ensure that our path toward a 'Golden Indonesia 2045' remains on track," he remarked.
