Why many BR1M applications get rejected
PONTIAN: More than a million applicantions for the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) scheme were rejected, mainly because they under-declared their monthly income.
Other reasons included failure to update their marital status, De**puty Finance Minister Datuk Ah**mad Maslan.
He added that there were applicants stating they were taking care of their elderly parents but, on the other hand, their parents had also applied for the handout.
“These were some of the reasons their applications were re**jected. However, all applicants are entitled to appeal,” he told reporters after opening a dengue awareness programme at Kampung Orang Asli Pontian Besar here yesterday.Ahmad said those rejected made up about 20% of the more than eight million BR1M applicants. The number of successful applicants totalled more than 6.4 million.
“Before handing out the aid, we cross-check with various sources, including loans taken under the applicants’ name.“We have often found applicants with loans amounting to more than the declared earnings (in the BR1M application),” he said.
