Arsenal target Remy's injury not serious

November 29, 2009

loic-remy

Nice striker Loic Remy , dubbed the 'new Henry', suffered only a minor injury against Sochaux in France's Ligue Un on Saturday.

It was confirmed on Sunday by Nice coach Didier Olle-Nicolle, that Remy, who was last week linked with a move to Arsenal, had sprained his right ankle. He is expected to resume training later this week.

Remy made his international debut for France during the summer, coming on as a substitute during a friendly against Nigeria. He has scored seven times for Nice so far this season.

Last week Remy was reported as saying "I often talk about Arsenal with Diaby and Sagna when I am with them in the French team."

"They tell me that when you are at Arsenal you want to stay there for your entire career."

Arsenal prepare loan move for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
December 24, 2009

klaas-jan-huntelaar

Arsenal are "exploring the possibility" of bringing in Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on loan in January, according to a report in the London Evening Standard today.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he is in the market for a striker following the long-term injury to Robin van Persie .

The Gunners were linked with Huntelaar in the summer but Wenger reportedly refused to pay £14million to sign the Dutchman from Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old striker has struggled for first team opportunities at AC Milan and has just two goals to his name this season, both came in a brief substitute appearance against Catania in November.

Huntelaar has been warned that he needs regular first team action to grab a spot in Holland’s World Cup squad.

Although he is cup tied for the Champions League, Arsene Wenger said earlier this week that he would be willing to bring in a player who cannot appear in Europe, as he did with Andrey Arshavin in the January 2009 transfer window.

Huntelaar is eager to play Premier League football and has also been linked with Arsenal’s great rivals Tottenham and Manchester United. The former Ajax striker would be likely to knock in the goals at Arsenal with the likes of Andrey Arshavin and Cesc Fabregas providing the ammunition.

Arsenal boss Wenger: We have an interested eye on the transfer window
December 23, 2009

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the Gunners will have an “interested eye on the transfer window” as they look to boost their attacking options with Robin van Persie injured.

Wenger also said that he would be willing to sign a player who is cup-tied for the Champions League, as he did with Andrey Arshavin on the last day of the January 2008 transfer window.

The Arsenal boss said: "We are going for the domestic title and the FA Cup aswell and doing that allows you to rest a player for the Champions League or play another player in the Premier League. Of course I would prefer the player who can play in both competitions and so it would mean the player has the quality to play in the long-term for Arsenal Football Club."

The "Professor" added: "But we have an interested eye on the transfer window and if the right player turns up then we will do it. Sometimes you think that is a bargain you cannot turn down and don't forget Arshavin got us in the Champions League last season."

The Gunners have been linked with a host of strikers to provide a greater physical threat up front including Carlton Cole (West Ham), Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux), Andre-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse) and Luca Toni (Bayern Munich).

Reports in Italy yesterday also claimed Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo could be heading to the Emirates after Arsenal missed out on him during the summer.

Juventus hoping that Arsenal will sign Melo
December 22, 2009

Defensive midfielder Felipe Melo looks set to leave Juventus and the Turin giants have pinpointed Arsenal as the club to sign him.

The Brazilian has been a very expensive flop since his £18.5m transfer from Fiorentina in the summer which also included two players in exchange.

He was voted the worst signing of the year earlier this month in Italy and was substituted after just 32 minutes against Catania on Sunday.

Juventus are apparently keen to discover if the competition they faced from Arsenal for Melo's signature in the summer was in fact genuine or just a ploy by Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino to inflate the transfer fee.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Juventus would like to recoup as much of their initial investment as possible, but it's unlikely any team would take Melo for that price in spite of his impressive performances in the Confederations Cup during the summer.

26 year-old Melo is a midfield anchor man much like Momo Sissoko and Christian Poulsen . Melo has played 15 times for Brazil and also has experience playing in Spain's Primera Liga.

Aside from his form, Melo has a frosty relationship with current Juventus boss Ciro Ferrara. Melo has complained about being used as a playmaker and the two didn't shake hands following Melo's substutition on Sunday.

Everything points to Melo moving from Juventus, but whether Arsenal are willing to sign a player so clearly out of form remains to be seen.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea battle to bring striker Pandev to London
December 24, 2009

goran-pandev

Striker Goran Pandev will be allowed to leave Lazio and Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea will fight it out for his signature if he decides to come the Premier League.

Pandev has finally had a long running legal battle with Lazio resolved and has been released from his contract. The Macedonian striker joined Lazio in 2004 and has been a regular goalscorer in Serie A.

However, he has not played this season, having been branded a "rebel" by club president Claudio Lotito.

Pandev's lawyer Mattia Grassani said: "Goran's contract has been resolved and the club have been ordered to pay £143,500 in punitive damages as well as the legal costs."

The race is now on for Pandev's signature and although both Inter Milan and Juventus are said to be interested in him, top English sides are also tracking the situation.

The Sun reports that Tottenham and Chelsea are interested in the 26 year-old while the Daily Mail puts Arsenal in pole position. Pandev can play up front or behind a striker and has scored almost one goal in every two games in over 50 international appearances.

Should Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham sign the front man, it is estimated that they will have to part with around £10M.
