Arsene Wenger is keeping tabs on Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo.

Arsenal boss Wenger has instructed scouts to watch 26-year-old Montolivo this season and they were represented at Italy’s win over Slovenia.

Italy international Montolivo, who plays the midfield holding role, was linked with Arsenal this summer and is out of contract at the end of the season. Fiorentina are hoping he will sign a new deal.

Arsenal will face competition from AC Milan if they decide to pursue any interest in Montolivo.

Gunners offered £15m Bundesliga winger - reports

Jefferson Farfan to Arsenal - Andrey Arshavin to Schalke

Arsenal will reportedly be offered the chance to sign Schalke winger Jefferson Farfan in January.

Farfan has scored 30 times in 119 times for the Bundesliga outfit since moving to the Veltins-Arena in 2008 from PSV Eindhoven.

According to talkSPORT, Schalke are interested in Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin and are keen to offer £15 million-rated Farfan in exchange.

Die Königsblauen are resigned to losing Farfan, but will not sell the 27-year-old Peruvian in January unless they can find a replacement - and Arshavin is reported to be considered an ideal option.

Arshavin has been restricted to a bit-part role at the Emirates Stadium this season, but says he will stay with Arsenal for the short-term at least in order to fight for his place.

The Russian has, however, been frequently been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with the likes of Juventus and Zenit St Petersburg said to be interested in his signature.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to further reinforce their midfield during the transfer window, and Arsene Wenger has been linked with swoops for Yann M'Vila and Tim Ream.

£15m Liverpool & Arsenal target handed ultimatum

Liverpool & Arsenal target Hugo Rodallega told to sign new contract

Wigan want to resolve Liverpool and Arsenal target Hugo Rodallega's contract dispute before the January transfer window opens.

The Colombian striker's current deal expires next summer, but he has yet to give any indication that he wants to reamin at the DW Stadium.

"We want it resolved before the January window," said Wigan chief executive Jonathan Jackson.

"Hugo's still assessing his options but we hope he will stay."

According to the Daily Mail, both Liverpool and Arsenal are watching the situation of the £15 million-rated forward with interest, and could make moves when the time is right.

Both Arsene Wenger and Kenny Dalglish are thought to be keen to further reinforce their goalscoring departments, although Rodallega has hardly put himself in the shop window this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly pursuing FC Koln hotshot Lukas Podolksi and Barcelona star David Villa is said to be on the Liverpool radar.

However, neither Arsenal or Liverpool are thought to have identified a striker as their top priority in the New Year.

Gunners in £5m Spanish fight over 'Rossi replacement'

Arsenal face competition from Villarreal in race to sign Eduardo Vargas

Eduardo Vargas is set to be the subject of a transfer battle between Arsenal and Villarreal.

The La Liga outfit have targeted the £5 million-rated striker as a replacement for Giuseppe Rossi, who is out of action at El Madrigal for six months with a knee ligament injury.

However, talkSPORT claims Arsenal are set to challenge the Spaniard's for Vargas' signature, with Arsene Wenger looking to add to his attacking options at the Emirates in January.

The Universidad de Chile starlet is regarded as one of the hottest properties in his homeland, with AC Milan recently being linked with a move for the 21-year-old as well.

It's the Gunners who lead the chase from England though, with Wenger's array of Arsenal scouts highlighting the South American as a potential star of the future.

The forward would join Brazilian full-back Andre Santos in north London, whilst fellow players from the continent Denilson and Carlos Vela are currently on loan and away from the Arsenal first team.
