Arsenal Ready To Sell Out-Of-Form Defender

Arsenal are rumoured to be off-loading defender Per Mertesacker, after only one year at the club.
In a report on the Mirror website, the Gunners are ready to cut their losses over the German international, who has appeared out of sorts during his time in England.
Mertesacker, who was an £8 million deadline-day acquisition last summer, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing ankle ligaments in the Gunners 2-1 victory at Sunderland in February.
The report claims that Arsenal will try and recoup a majority of that fee, as they look to move for Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen.
The Gunners have been linked with the defender for a number of months, with Arsene Wenger keen on re-uniting Vertonghen with his Belgian team-mate Thomas Vermaelen who also played alongside each other at Ajax.
However, it is believed that there are a number of clubs interested in the 24 year-old, including Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Ajax boss Frank de Boer said he expects Vertonghen to leave at the end of the end of the season. Speaking to ESPN Star he said: “When there's a club that he's already interested in - and it's really got to be a good club - then he will leave. It's 100 per cent sure.”
