Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has pulled off a coup by signing Bolivian 17 year-old Samuel Galindo who had been on trial with Everton and seemed poised to join the Toffees.
Galindo is currently playing at Bolivian club Real America and is considered a special talent in his home country, being handed the captaincy of the national under 20-side aged 17 and has even trained with the full senior squad.
The youngster had arrived in the UK for a seven-day trial at Everton and had sounded determined to impress, telling the Bolivian media before he left 'I hope not to waste this opportunity to prove to everyone that there are good players in Bolivia.'
In the end, it was Arsenal that clearly impressed. Wenger enticed Galindo to spend a day with the Gunners, he worked out with the first team squad and agreed to sign.
It is reported in the Daily Mirror that Arsenal will pay around £500,000 up front for Galindo with further payments based on appearances and achievements. One snag could be securing a work permit, but Arsenal hope to plead a special case due to Galindo's talent.
