At Bursa Malaysia, stocks to watch are Alliance Financial Group (AFG), Gadang, Malaysian Merchant Marine, Takaso Resources, Vastalux Energy and MISC.
Alliance Bank's board of directors, which is running the show in the absence of the bank's group CEO Datuk Bridget Lai following an internal probe, has queried her on matters pertaining to the investigation, which include renovations contracts.

However, Lai has spoken out, saying that her immediate priority is to clear her name amid the bank's internal investigation that has been blown "out of proportion" by the rumour mill.

The current development may weigh down the stocks until the probe is completed within two to three weeks.

"The indicative timeframe to complete the investigation is approximately two to three weeks; variance in which will be subject to review and approval by regulators and legal advisors," the bank said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, GADANG HOLDINGS BHD [] and its joint venture partner Bukit Jerneh Quarry Sdn Bhd have received a letter of acceptance from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd for part of the proposed low-cost carrier terminal at the KL International Airport. The contract is worth RM291 million.

Meanwhile, Takaso Resources could see the buying pressure easing off, as reflected in the profit taking on Tuesday, after rising as much as 28 sen or 39% in early trade. Unless there are positive news, investors could be quick to lock in gains.

Sarawak-themed stocks may continue to see trading interest after some stocks reached new 52-week highs, amid news of prominent investment flow and activity in the country?s largest state.

MISC BHD [] has received the go-ahead from its shareholders for a proposed rights issue to raise RM5.2 billion to finance its capital expenditure.

Vastalux, whose share price had been under pressure recently, made several changes to its board. It appointed Amir Baharom, 36, as its CEO. Prior to his appointment, Amir had been with KAF Fund Management Sdn Bhd, overseeing private equity investments.

KUALA LUMPUR: Asian markets are expected to continue to be cautious on Thursday, Jan 14 after the sharp fall on Wednesday which was triggered by China's move to tighten its monetary policy.

On Wall Street, US stocks rose on Wednesday as investors bet on recently weakened TECHNOLOGY [] and financial shares ahead of earnings from Intel Corp and JPMorgan Chase & Co, taking the Dow industrials to a fresh 15-month high.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 53.51 points, or 0.50 percent, to 10,680.77. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 9.46 points, or 0.83 percent, to 1,145.68. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 25.59 points, or 1.12 percent, to 2,307.90.

In Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will deliver his keynote address at an economic forum this morning which should provide an update on the economic recovery.

In the afternoon, the government's investment agency, Khazanah Nasional will provide an update on its performance, which would be interesting following its move to reduce its stakes in government-linked companies especially PLUS EXPRESSWAYS BHD [] and TENAGA NASIONAL BHD [].

Stocks to watch include Naim Holdings, Kossan Rubber Industries, (HSL) Hock Lok Siew and Dialog Group. Also on the list would be AEM, which was queried by Bursa Securities.

Kossan will ramp up 2010 production by 20% to 10.8 billion pieces to meet strong demand this year, says managing director Lim Kuang Sia.

The latex glove maker, which focuses on selling high-end surgical gloves to medical firms in the US, Europe and Japan, has received orders to last the first half of this year as countries boost healthcare expenditure to guard against the H1N1 flu pandemic.

Glove makers have showed they are resilient, as the stocks managed to close higher after coming under selling pressure earlier in the day.

NAIM HOLDINGS BHD []'s joint venture (JV), Sinohydro-Naim JV, has secured a RM209.11 million contract to undertake part of the transmission line projects for the Bakun-Similajau transmission system.

Hock Lok Siew Corporation has seen the entry of a new substantial shareholder. A1 Capital Sdn Bhd emerged as a substantial shareholder on Jan 7 when it acquired 7.4 million HLS shares, or an 8.1% stake in the company, in the open market.

Petra Perdana's shares should perk up after the compay said it had identified experienced supervisors and managers within the company to perform relevant job functions pending the appointment of the independent consultants.

In AE Multi, the compay said due to the change in the dynamics in the printed circuit boards industry, it will embark on an exercise to upgrade, improve its current production capabilities and explore new viable businesses to improve the company’s performance.

AE Multi also said the company has identified a placee for the 10% private placement at 50 sen which is 10% over the last closing price.

It has also negotiated with an interested party to provide funding for up to RM15 million for two years at an interest rate of 6% per annum subject to the funder having a right to convert debts or any part to equity at 55 sen, or a premium of more than 20% of current closing price.

Dialog Group expects to increase its profit after tax by 20% to 30%, for the current financial year.
Chairman Ngau Boon Keat said the company has been experiencing a steady growth of 30% annually in terms of profit over the years.
 
Stocks to watch include Minply Holdings Bhd,Hume Industries (Malaysia) Bhd, Integrated Rubber Corp Bhd’s (IRCB), glove makers, EON CAPITAL BHD [], Cocoaland and Malaysian Merchant Marine.
Minply proposed to cancel 80 sen off the RM1 par value of its shares to be off-set against its accumulated losses. When completed, the issued and paid-up share capital would be RM8.8 million comprising 44 million ordinary shares of 20 sen each.

As at Dec 31, 2008, Minply's accumulated losses stood at RM25.88 million at group level and RM34 million at company level.

Hong Leong Company (M) Bhd's is proposing to take its cash-rich subsidiary Hume Industries (Malaysia) Bhd private at RM4.30 per share under a voluntary takeover offer.

IRCB shares closed at RM1.61 on Jan 14, off the intra-day high of RM1.87 after Bursa Malaysia Securities queried the glove maker over an unusual market activity. The counter hit limit-up in early trade, prompting a query from Bursa. The company replied that it was not aware of any reasons for the sharp rise in volume and price.

Glove makers, which had a strong run-up recently, could see some profit taking ahead of the weekend. Among the counters which had surged were Top Glove, Supermax, Kossan and Hartalega.

Meanwhile, Khazanah Nasional confirmed it has started talks with HONG LEONG BANK BHD [] (HLB) on the sale of its 10% stake in EON Capital Bhd to the latter.

In Malaysian Merchant Marine, it reported that its executive deputy chairman Datuk Ramesh Rajaratnam disposed of five million shares on Jan 11 at 20 sen each. After the disposal, he ceased to be a substantial shareholder as his stake was reduced to 5.24 million shares or 3.13%.

Cocacoland has proposed to a private placement of 12 million news shares or 10% of its paid-up. At an indicative issue price of RM1.264 per placement Share, it is expected to raise up to RM15.2 million.

YTL Cement Singapore Pte Ltd - a unit of YTL Cement - has been asked to submit an unconditional offer for the rest of Jurong Cement Ltd. YTL Cement Singapore owns 21.48% of Jurong Cement and it has earlier proposed to acquire some assets from the latter for S$50 million.
