Three persons from a family were killed when the Perodua Viva car they were travelling in crashed head on with a van at Mile 24 Kota Samarahan/Sadong Jaya road yesterday.
A farmer, Lass anak Well aged 59, his wife, Kucing anak Laman, 58 and their youngest daughter, Fdea 19 died on the spot when the mishap struck at 5.30 pm.
The car was driven by Lass’s second child, Peter whose 3-month pregnant wife was seated in front. Peter sustained a right broken leg while his wife legs and arm were broken. They were both warded at the Sarawak General hospital.
According to a relative, the family of five were returning back to their kampong in Sadong Jaya when the car collided with a van heading to Asajaya.
The relative said they had gone to the wedding feast in Serian where Lass’s son was getting married.
The in-laws had asked Lass and family to stay back but they wanted to go home after the ceremony.
Lass and Kucing had another daughter who was not in the car with them. Fdea had just completed her Form Six examination.
The van driver escaped unhurt but a front passenger and another passenger at the back sustained broken limps. The van was ferrying eight passengers. The others escaped with minor injuries.
Samarahan police are investigating the cause of the accident.
The remains were send back to their kampong after a post mortem was conducted this morning.
The three would be buried tomorrow.
