XRP Ledger team fires back at shocking low ranking

On Aug. 13, Kaiko, one of the leading crypto analytics firms, released the Blockchain Ecosystem Ranking report for the second quarter of 2025 and ranked XRP Ledger as the least secure blockchain among 15 leading networks.

While Ethereum at the top secured 83 out of 100 in security, XRP Ledger scored only 41.

XRPL received the last spot in the governance ranking also, in which it scored 65. Ethereum again remained at the top, scoring 85.

Overall, it secured 57 out of 100 and stood at the 13th position among 15 blockchain networks.

Now, developers of the XRPL have hit back at the Kaiko ranking. RippleX engineering head Ayo Akinyele told Decrypt that XRP Ledger's low score is "misleading," citing the network's strong safety record. XRPL has been continuously operating for 13 years without a single incident impacting the core network, Akinyele said.

The Kaiko team, on the other hand, said the ranking was influenced in part by an incident in April in which the network's official software development kit was hit with a supply chain attack and infected with a potential crypto-swiping "backdoor." The XRP Ledger Foundation argued that it replaced the compromised downloads and the incident didn't impact the network codebase itself.

"Ripple, the XRPL Foundation, validators, and independent developers all communicated openly," a Ripple Labs representative said, "from incident reports to public posts."

A Kaiko representative told Decrypt that the blockchain's relatively centralized nature also led to it receiving a low ranking.

But Akinyele said XRPL's security measures go far beyond its decentralization. "Validators have no incentive to collude or censor," he added. "If [malicious] behavior were ever attempted, the community could immediately reject the offending validator and adapt the network to prevent it."

XRP was trading at $2.91 at press time, down 0.61% a day.
