Unlike a traditional (forward) auction where buyers bid on a product, in a reverse auction the buyers are in control as they offer bidders the opportunity to sell to them a product or service needed for their business. Prospective sellers bid against each other with the lowest price they would be willing to take for the product or service.
Reverse auctions work just as well in the public sector as in the private sector. In addition, price does not have to be the buyer’s only consideration. Buyers can compare suppliers’ prices, experience, quality and reputation in making a purchasing decision. Reverse auctions can be also used by buyers to find vendors with whom they want to work in the future.
eAuctionmate is a web based auction management application that supports both forward and reverse auctions which may be open or closed. eAuctionmate is a collaborative application that can eliminate paper RFQ’s and bid responses. Selected suppliers are automatically notified of an auction by email. Each supplier can use a web browser to submit their bid online which then flow automatically into your system.
