U.S. government to recruit workforce from popular crypto exchanges

The White House has launched the U.S. Tech Force to recruit around 1,000 engineers to build next-gen government technology.

The Tech Force will address a range of administrative challenges at different government organs, and private sector giants, including popular crypto companies like Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) and Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: HOOD), have decided to participate in the program.

Founded in 2012, Coinbase is the largest crypto trading exchange in the U.S. The company, which went public in 2021, joined the S&P 500 index in May this year.

Robinhood Markets was founded a year later than Coinbase in 2013. It is an e-trading platform that offers stocks, cryptocurrencies, tokenized financial products, etc. The company went public in July 2021 and joined the S&P 500 benchmark in September this year.

What U.S. Tech Force is all about

These tech companies will supply their workforce and resources to the two-year program and help different government departments such as Treasury, War, Commerce, Labor, the Internal Revenue Service, etc.

Private sector companies can provide technical training resources and mentorship programs, nominate their employees to work for the U.S. government, and commit to consider the program's alumni for employment after their Tech Force tenure ends.

The elite Tech Force is looking for candidates with expertise in software engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, etc.

Though the compensation will vary based on experience and agency placement, participants can expect to be paid in the range of $150,000-$200,000 annually, in addition to benefits like health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, and performance-based awards.

Most positions are based in Washington, D.C., but some positions might require relocation to places across the U.S. Remote work options vary by agency and role.

The Tech Force clarified that these roles aren't political appointments and participants are hired as federal employees based on their technical qualifications and serve in non-partisan roles.

The inclusion of crypto companies like Coinbase and Robinhood alongside tech giants like Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, etc. only highlights how far the digital assets industry has come and is no longer a suspect in the eyes of the U.S. administration.
