Arsene Wenger Congratulates Tottenham On 9-1 Record Win
Frenchman hails 'fantastic achievement'…

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has put aside local rivalry by congratulating Tottenham Hotspur on the thrashing they gave Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

Spurs beat the Latics 9-1 at White Hart Lane. Jermain Defoe scored an incredible five times, while Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon, a Chris Kirkland own goal, and Niko Kranjcar completed the rout.

"It's a fantastic achievement for them," Wenger said in a press conference prior to his club's Tuesday evening showdown with Standard Liege in the Champions League.

"You feel a bit sorry for Wigan because this year they have shown quality.

"They've gone from being able to beat Chelsea to conceding many goals.

"They've gone with a manager who wants to play, which I find very good. Sometimes, though, it can work against you," the Frenchman added.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both have 25 points, although the Gunners have a game in hand.
