Celtic manager Neil Lennon is looking for "two or three" players to complete his squad ahead of the new season.

St mirren 2-1 motherwell

St Mirren striker Stephen Thompson helped ease the Paisley side’s relegation worries with a double to secure victory over Motherwell.

The Steelmen had gone into the Friday night fixture knowing that a victory would have seen them close the gap on league leaders Celtic to just one point.

Both goals came in the final eight minutes of the first half, as Marc McAusland played the ball to Jon Robertson on the right-hand side and the Buddies midfielder found Thompson inside the box, who showed good composure to bury a shot past Darren Randolph in the Motherwell goal.

Moments later Thompson grabbed his second goal of the game, as he rose above the Motherwell defence to power home a deep cross from the right wing by Gary Teale in order to put his side two goals ahead at the break.

Stuart McCall’s men got a goal back late on as Henrik Ojamaa raced down the left before crossing for Bob McHugh, who slammed the ball off the bar and into the net past Craig Samson.

The Lanarkshire side continued to pile on the pressure for the remaining minutes of the game, but they failed to find a valuable equaliser.

Aberdeen 2-0 st johnstone

A double from Niall McGinn helped Aberdeen claim their first home league win in four attempts and push them back into the top four.

The defeat for the Perth side sees them fail to win in the SPL for the fourth game in a row and drop down to sixth in the table.

St Johnstone had a superb chance to take the lead in the first half, but Frazer Wright scooped his chance over Jason Brown’s bar in the Dons goal.

The opening goal came just after the hour mark when Callum Davidson gave away a free kick by fouling Josh Magennis. McGinn stepped up and curled the ball beyond fellow Northern Irishman Allan Mannus for the first of the game.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the three points were secured as substitute Jamie Masson found McGinn inside the St Johnstone area to fire the ball home from close range.

Inverness ct 4 -1 dundee

Inverness CT jumped into second place as a double from Billy McKay, along with strikes from Owain Tudur Jones and Andrew Shinnie, saw the Highland side humble Dundee.

The defeat leaves Barry Smith’s men rooted to the foot of the table, six points behind second-bottom Ross County, as they prepare for the visit of Celtic on Boxing Day.

The opener came when Declan Gallagher was adjudged to have brought down McKay inside the box after a Richie Foran strike, allowing the Inverness striker to step up and fire home the resulting penalty.

Dundee managed to get back on level terms as John Baird fed in Nicky Reilly to finish low into the bottom corner past Antonio Reguero.

Five minutes later Inverness once again restored their advantage as Foran found Tudur Jones on the edge of the area and his stunning long-range effort easily beat Dundee keeper Rab Douglas as it nestled in the back of the net.

Just after the break Inverness made it three as a poor defensive pass allowed McKay to round Douglas. The keeper managed to get a foot to the ball but that did not stop the striker from converting at the second attempt.

The fourth goal came with 15 minutes remaining as Graeme Shinnie raced down the left wing, before playing in his brother Andrew Shinnie to cut inside the Dundee defence and slam the ball home to complete the rout.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon welcomes the opportunity to rest his players when the SPL takes a two-week winter break in January.

Following a packed festive schedule involving matches against Dundee and Hibernian, the Bhoys' home game against Motherwell on January 2 will be their last league fixture for over two weeks.

Celtic 4-0 Ross County

Second half goals from Scott Brown and James Forrest as well as a double by Gary Hooper saw Celtic comfortably ease past relegation candidates Ross County.

The win sees the Scottish Premier League leaders extend their lead at the top of the table to five points after Motherwell’s defeat to St Mirren on Friday evening.

Neil Lennon made two changes from the side that defeated St Mirren last week, with Emilio Izaguirre and Lassad Niouoi coming in for Adam Matthews and Mikael Lustig.

Ross County brought in Mihael Kovacevic and Rocco Quinn for Ross Tokely and Mark Fotheringham, who started during the draw to fellow relegation strugglers Dundee last Saturday.

Celtic had two good chances to take an early lead, as firstly Lassad had a header from an Izaguirre cross from the left before Charlie Mulgrew had a strike at goal after a Georgios Samaras free kick, but on both occasions Mark Brown saved well to prevent his former side from going ahead.

Lennon’s side completed a superb move which started from the back and then finished off with Lassad mishitting an Izaguirre cross. The rebound fell to Hooper, but the striker’s effort was blocked for a corner.

The ball then went up the other end as a lapse in the Celtic defence saw Alex Cooper claim possession and play in Quinn on the edge of the area, but his strike was poor and allowed Forster to get down to save easily.

Just before the break Forster was called into action again to keep the score level as Quinn put in Cooper on the left-hand side, but the former Liverpool youngster’s strike was straight at the English shot-stopper.

Within a minute of the second half starting Celtic took the lead when Hooper played in Brown on the right of the penalty area and the Hoops skipper marched forward, before playing the ball into the corner of the Staggies' net.

Celtic got their second goal only a few minutes later as Victor Wanyama strode forward, finding Lassad on the left wing, and his inswinging cross was met by the head of Hooper, who diverted the ball beyond the helpless Brown.

The three points were wrapped up for the home side as a corner from the right by Mulgrew was headed into the danger area by Wanyama, who got above Staggies goalkeeper Brown and allowed Hooper to head home from close range.

Hoops boss Lennon was handed a boost as substitute Forrest received the ball on the right wing, cutting into the box and past the Ross County defence, before placing the ball beyond Brown for the fourth of the game.

Hooper should have sealed his hat-trick late on as Forrest found fellow substitute John Heron and his strike at goal was deflected towards goal by the English striker, but it smacked off the bar and away from danger, with the home side having to settle for a four-goal victory.
