Updated : 5th October 2010

Celtic have played down reports that midfielder Beram Kayal will be out of action for three months after the recurrence of a hernia problem, declaring them "inaccurate" and insisting that the extent of his injury is not yet known. It was claimed that the player, who has featured five times since arriving from Maccabi Haifa at the end of July for £1.2 million, could struggle to be back until early in the New Year.

A statement on the club's website updated Kayal's injury situation and that of several other players.

"Celtic would like to clarify the current injury situation at the club to supporters following some inaccurate reporting in recent days. As yet, it's inaccurate to report that Beram Kayal will be out of action for three months. "The player only underwent investigations on Friday when he had some scans and tomorrow he will see a specialist in Yorkshire. Once the medical team have more information they will be able to get a better guideline until how long he will be out for and decide the best course of treatment.

"Meanwhile, contrary to reports, Niall McGinn has been training and is fighting for a place in the team. He is currently away on international duty. Paddy McCourt will return to training after the weekend, along with Thomas Rogne, who had suffered a very slight calf strain. Emilio Izaguirre is also expected to join them. "James Forrest is making good progress from his ankle injury and the club are hopeful that he will train at some point in the following week. The medical team are also hopeful that Charlie Mulgrew will return to training next week following a hamstring strain.''

Injury blow for Brown

Updated : 8th October 2010

Celtic and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown has been ruled out for at least six weeks with a metatarsal injury. Brown was forced to withdraw from Craig Levein's squad ahead of Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Czech Republic in Prague after a decision was taken not to risk aggravating what was described as an ankle problem.

It was assumed Brown would return to the Scotland camp on Saturday to be assessed ahead of next Tuesday's clash with Spain at Hampden. However, Celtic's medical staff have investigated the problem and a statement on the club's website read: "Following scans it has been found that Scott has suffered a stress reaction in the third metatarsal on his right foot.

"Investigations are ongoing but it is likely that Scott will, unfortunately, be out for a period of six weeks. "However, this could potentially be longer, though the club will only know after Scott sees a specialist next Tuesday."

Nikica Jelavic claims Hearts midfielder Ian Black should have been given a red card for the challenge which could rule him out of action for several months. Rangers striker Jelavic - who cost £4 million in the summer - is furious after suffering ankle ligament damage during Saturday's 2-1 win at Tynecastle.

The club have confirmed the Croatia international will miss a number of matches but reports suggest he could be out for up to four month. Jelavic was reported as saying: "I'm mad at him - obviously I'm going to be angry. He had no chance to get to the ball. He could have grabbed my shirt if he wanted to stop me but he was going to get me anyway.

"He should have been given a red card, not yellow. Can you imagine how he can get a yellow when I am out of the game for at least three months? But I will not take revenge. I am not that kind of player." He added: "This won't break me - I will come back even stronger."

Meanwhile, Rangers hope to finalise the signing of Salim Kerkar, with the player set to return to France in a bid to help complete the deal. The 23-year-old is a free agent after being released by Guegnon at the end of last season and he has been training with the Scottish champions since August.

However, a few loose ends have still to be tied up with the French club before he can seal his move to Glasgow. Assistant manager Ally McCoist told the club's website: "Salim is going over to see his old club to try to move things on because we have so far been unable to get things finalised.

"We have been seeking some confirmation from them on a couple of issues but have not had the information we need. "So he will head back there to try to get things moving and then come back and join the training again and hopefully we can get a deal done.
"He is a lad who is shaping up well. He is a nice lad but more importantly he has a good left foot and I think our fans will enjoy seeing him."

McGregor facing SFA investigation over Maguire clash

Updated : 8th October 2010

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor faces an investigation into an incident where he appeared to kick out at Aberdeen's Chris Maguire, the Scottish Football Association has confirmed.

McGregor, currently away on Scotland duty, could receive a one-match ban for the incident, which took place during the Gers' Scottish Premier League victory at Pittodrie last month.
An SFA spokesman said: "We can confirm an investigation has been initiated into an incident not witnessed by the match official.''
A disciplinary panel will discuss the matter in Glasgow on Friday, but the timing of their meeting - on a day that McGregor is preparing for Scotland's Euro 2012 qualifier against Czech Republic - has raised a few eyebrows.

McGregor, 28, has been no stranger to controversy over the years, having been dropped from playing for club and country in 2009 along with then Rangers team-mate Barry Ferguson - a punishment for staying out drinking while on international duty and subsequently making a V-sign on camera aimed towards SFA officials. And last month, McGregor drew widespread criticism - but escaped SFA action - for an incident in which he feigned being headbutted by Hibernian striker Derek Riordan.

Kick lands Gers' keeper McGregor one-match ban

Updated : 9th October 2010

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has been handed a one-match suspension by the Scottish Football Association after being found guilty of violent conduct during the Premier League match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on September 26 following an incident with Chris McGuire, the SFA have confirmed.

McGregor had been charged after aiming a kick at the Dons striker during the 3-2 victory for Rangers. He has also had 12 disciplinary points added to his record.

The incident was not spotted at the time by any of the match officials but it was brought to the attention of the SFA who convened a video review panel during the week. McGregor and Rangers were informed of the decision by recorded delivery post and email and have seven days to appeal.

McGregor is set to miss next weekend's SPL clash with Motherwell.

Celtic in talks over Madden deal

Updated : 12 October 2010

Bohemians boss Pat Fenlon has revealed talks are ongoing with Celtic over Ireland Under-21 striker Paddy Madden. Celtic took Madden, 20, on trial last year and he featured against them on Sunday as the Bhoys ran out 4-1 winners in a friendly.

"We're still talking to Celtic but nothing has been agreed," Fenlon told the Evening Herald. "Any deal has to suit the club and suit the player. Brown out for eight to ten weeks

Updated : 13th October 2010

Celtic captain Scott Brown does not need surgery on his broken foot but he still faces up to ten weeks on the sidelines.

Celtic announced on Friday that the Scotland midfielder would be out for at least six weeks, and possibly more, with a stress reaction in a metatarsal on his right foot. A visit to a specialist has now allayed fears he would need surgery, which would have kept him out for about three months, but a statement on the club's official website said that, with the required extra rehabilitation required, he is "likely to be out for eight to ten weeks."

Brown had already been ruled out of the first Old Firm derby of the season at Celtic Park on October 24, but he should be firmly back in action before the second league meeting of the season against Rangers on January 2. The former Hibernian player has joined fellow central midfielder Beram Kayal on the sidelines with the Israel international set for a similar spell out after being told he needed hernia surgery. The injuries could revive the Parkhead career of Marc Crosas, who made his first SPL appearance of the season when he came off the bench in the 3-1 victory over Hamilton in Celtic`s most recent match.

Crosas has been keeping fit by playing friendlies for Danny McGrain's development squad and featured in a 4-1 victory over Bohemians at the weekend. Despite being left out of Celtic's 25-man European squad earlier in the season, Crosas insists he has not let his spirits drop while playing alongside the club's youngsters.

"That's my job - it's what I am getting paid for and it's what I love to do," Crosas told the Huddle Online. "There is no point being in a bad mood or not trying to do what I have to do. I need to train, I need to work hard and I need to be ready if the opportunity comes to play. "I am still young, I'm still only 22, but I have a little bit of experience already and it's important that the younger lads coming to play in the reserve team see that the older players are ready for it. "I need to be ready to take any opportunity, although it's sad if that opportunity comes from one of your team-mates getting injured, but I would be wrong to think that, just because we have two important midfielders injured, that I'm going to play."

Manager Neil Lennon has been boosted by the return to fitness of Paddy McCourt following a dislocated shoulder. Emilio Izaguirre is also in the final stages of his recovery from a thigh problem, although Sunday's visit to Dundee United may be too early for the left back. James Forrest is struggling to overcome an ankle problem while Thomas Rogne (thigh) and Charlie Mulgrew (hamstring) are also expected to be unavailable despite making good progress.
