There is an intriguing commentary in The Daily Reckoning by Matt Badiali on silver. In particular he cites Jason Goepfert’s SentimenTrader readings for silver. This service tracks investor sentiment towards different asset classes.

Silver it becomes apparent is at the bottom of its range for pessimism:

‘The so-called “commitment of non-commercial traders” hit 10,352. That’s incredibly low. The last time sentiment numbers were that low was in August 2007. Six months later, the price of silver was 59 per cent higher. It rose from $12 per ounce to $19 per ounce.

PRECIOUS METALS: Silver Slumps 6%, Gold Lower On Euro Weakness:-?

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Silver prices tumbled 6% and gold retreated Wednesday as investors rushed to cash in their holdings amid continued disappointment that the Federal Reserve refrained from a third fiscal stimulus and worries about a weaker euro.:-?

The Fed's policy setting committee sounded cautiously optimistic about the U.S. economy in its statement Tuesday, keeping interest rates unchanged at near zero but also offering no indication of a third round of quantitative easing, known as QE3.

"The market yesterday was looking for more indications of a QE3 and when we didn't get it the dollar stayed firmer and commodities are paying the price," said Matt Zeman, head of trading at Kingsview Financial.

Silver, which is known as the "wild child" of precious metals because its price moves tend to be a lot more exaggerated than those of its peers, tumbled $2.09, or 6.7%, to trade at $29.17 a troy ounce for the March-delivery contract.

Silver slides on continued selling, gold edge higher

MUMBAI: Silver prices slid further at the bullion market on Saturday on continued speculative sell-off and investors profit-taking amid bearish global market.

While, gold moved up slightly on mild trading activity. Silver ready (.999 fineness) dipped by Rs 190 per kg to finish at Rs 51,930 from Friday's closing level of Rs 52,120.

However, standard gold of 99.5 per cent purity added by Rs 5 to end at Rs 27,455 per 10 grams from Rs 27,450.
