SEA Games: Indonesia wins two rowing golds

Bangkok (ANTARA) - Indonesia's rowing team won two gold medals and one silver in the finals of the 2025 SEA Games in Chonburi, Thailand, on Tuesday.

La Memo secured Indonesia's first gold after winning the men's 2,000-meter single sculls in eight minutes 10.247 seconds, finishing ahead of Thailand's Premanut Wattanusith and the Philippines' Cris Nievarez.

"It was a hard-fought victory because we are not accustomed to waves. Our training took place in the relatively calm waters of Lake Cipule," Memo said, referring to a lake in Karawang, West Java.

Despite running third for much of the race, Memo regained momentum through focus and technical precision to claim victory in the final stretch.

"For me, technical mastery must come before physical strength," he added.

The gold marked Memo's fifth SEA Games title. He won two golds in the men’s 500-meter and 1,000-meter single sculls at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games and two more in double and quadruple sculls at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games.

Indonesia's second gold came through Ali Mardiansyah, Ihram, Rafiq Wijdan Yasir, and Isadi Ardi, who won the men’s lightweight 2,000-meter quadruple sculls in six minutes 38.862 seconds.

They defeated crews from Vietnam and Thailand in the event.

Meanwhile, Nur Azizah Patwa, Andi Reski Rahmawati, Yunita Huby, and Aisah Nabilla claimed silver in the women's 2,000-meter four, finishing behind Vietnam and ahead of Thailand.

The medals boosted Indonesia's overall tally to 181 as of Monday, comprising 52 gold, 65 silver, and 64 bronze, placing the country second behind host Thailand in the provisional standings.
