Safeguarding the Constitution is a shared duty: MPR Speaker

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani emphasized that Constitution Day and the 80th anniversary of the MPR serve as a reminder that safeguarding the constitution is a collective responsibility.

“The Constitution Day that we commemorate this evening reminds us that protecting the constitution is a shared task,” Muzani said at the commemoration event in Jakarta on Monday.

He called on all stakeholders—through research, public dissemination, or policymaking—to ensure the constitution remains upheld and resilient. This, he noted, is crucial so that independence is not merely a legacy, but is realized in a sovereign, just, and prosperous nation founded on a solid constitutional framework.

Muzani underlined that the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, adopted on August 18, 1945, reflects the noble ideals of the nation’s founders.

“It embodies their vision of a nation that upholds social justice, ensures prosperity for all, maintains unity in diversity, and exercises full sovereignty,” he stressed.

He added that constitutional dynamics over time have provided valuable lessons and shown a strong commitment to respecting the nation’s struggle while steering Indonesia toward modernity.

Muzani also urged all parties not to neglect the constitution, underscoring the MPR’s key role in addressing challenges that may threaten the nation’s ideals.
