THE RAF is under fire for blowing nearly £2 million to take part in an air show in Malaysia.
Four Typhoon fighter jets flew 8,000 miles for the event in the Far East.
Military sources insisted the visit — which included nearly 100 ground crew — coincided with a pre-planned exercise.
But MPs questioned if the event was justified when Servicemen and women face major cutbacks. Shadow defence secretary Jim Murphy said: “Any extravagance is inexcusable at a time of cuts to pay, pensions and personnel.”
Ex-Guardsman Tony Field, 57, said: “It’s disgusting the RAF can waste money when our heroes are finding costs being cut.”
Most of the cost of the jaunt was met by the Malaysian government and BAE Systems. But the MoD confirmed the £1.85 million remainder of the bill will come out of taxpayers’ pockets.
