Job Purpose

To plan, manage and monitor the operation of chemical laboratory services to the Works in line with company's guidelines so as to ensure the level of proficiency, quality and standards satisfy the customer’s demands and SAMM requirements for testing services that support an effective raw material, fuel and product quality system.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the compliance and adherence to the Group’s Health & safety policies, company's standards and advisories & OSHAS requirement.
• To ensure that all safety measures are being adhered all the time including your direct reports & contractors in order to achieve zero LTI by following SOPs, Procedures, and Safety practices.
• To be transparent and show caring of safety of others by reporting Near Misses in the workplace, & do regular Safety Audits
• Active participation on any Safety Initiatives by the plant and BU, RCA and Risk assessment preparation
• Lead, manage & coordinate safety management at site thru effective communication, coaching & training to teammates and contractors to ensure a safe working area
• Inculcate good safety behavior at work place by sharing best practices during daily tool box meeting, weekly dialogue and practicing good house keeping
• Ensure the respect of Environment practices & policies in order to minimize the contamination of environment
• To initiate, study, develop and recommend improvements to products and materials quality and specifications to the company through R&D activities and comparative studies so as to ensure continuous quality products and improvements with optimal cost.
• To implement, manage and monitor Laboratory procedures and practices within the department in accordance to the Chemist Act and company’s guidelines and policies so as to ensure high standards are maintained within the department.
• To identify, develop, implement and monitor Laboratory improvement programmers and equipment upgrading in order to ensure optimum efficiency, resources, cost effectiveness contributing to the profitability of the company.
• To plan, review, manage and monitor testing data so as to ensure works and services are accurate and timely and conform to standards, specifications and requirements of customers as well as company and ISO guidelines and policies.
• Handle customer complaints on related quality issue and conduct testing on final product to ensure it meets relevant specification and customer requirement and issue of relevant certificate to the customer.
• To ensure safety of all teammates and observe all safety requirement and facilitate Risk Assessment Exercise in order to meet the standard of OHSAS.
• Ensure all chemicals are stored, used and dispose according to the environmental standard specification in order to renew and obtain operating licenses from the statutory bodies yearly.
• To motivate, coach and identify new training needs for subordinate and manage man power resources in order to aware of new techniques and better knowledge of chemical equipment.
• Develop, recommend and control Laboratory budget so as to ensure optimum cost and quality are met in line with the company’s objectives and policies.
• To ensure the control of production of all the process (Raw Mix, Clinker and Cement).
• Implement and adhere to all Internal Control Rules and the Code of Business Conduct in the area of responsibilities.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• 5 years experience in cement plant
• Licensed membership of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry
• Good knowledge of cement plant operation
• Well versed in ISO standards
• Good IT knowledge
• Good knowledge in conducting test
• Understanding of local market
