Fernandes has backed Warnock, left, but insists improvement will be gradual
New Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes says the club is lucky to have Neil Warnock as manager.

Malaysian businessman Fernandes has promised four new signings but says improvement will be a gradual process.

"Neil Warnock is a super guy. We are blessed to have him and now he'll be able to do a lot more," Fernandes told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek program.

Fernandes also revealed that a new ground is a long-term aim, insisting "we definitely need a bigger stadium".

"It is tough to develop Loftus Road because of the lack of space, so we need to look at other options in the area. It's something to do at one stage," Fernandes added.

Fernandes was quick to point out that his plans for building the club are long-term.

"Four signings in this transfer window is definitely possible, but just to stay in the Premier League is the ambition for this season. Lets take things step-by-step and be realistic," he added.

"I think there's a tremendous amount of potential in QPR. I used to live on Uxbridge Road so have always had a soft spot for the club.

"I love building things and at QPR, in time, I think we can build something quite special.

"We are not a Manchester United, a Manchester City or a Chelsea - we won't just throw money at the club. But we will build a strong scouting network and training infrastructure.

"It will be a gradual process and the club will be better off than when I arrived," he concluded.

Fernandes also confirmed the club will make an announcement in the "next day or two" about ticket prices.

New owner open to new stadium if Loftus Road plans are rejected

New Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes admits Loftus Road may be too small a ground to match his ambitions for the club.

The stadium has been the home of QPR for a total of 92 years, but it's location in West London restricts the ability to expand it's some 18,500 capacity.

Now the smallest ground in the Premier League, Fernandes revealed the club is in negotiations with the council over expanding, but is realistic about their chances.

"There's a deep love for Neil here, it's very apparent. They just want a chairman who will give the manager support."

"Definitely we would like a bigger stadium and a nicer stadium," he told The Observer.

"It's in the hands of the [local] council but I don't think there's room for development here.

"It's early days but of course it would be great to get a bigger stadium and that's certainly in my mind.

"We have to try and stay around the area because I think that's very important and there were some options which were put forward by the last owners.

"I'm a big believer that anything's possible if you put your mind to it, so let's see."

'Old-fashioned'

Meanwhile, Fernandes has assured fans his takeover will not saddle the club with debt, having paid for the deal up front.

"This is not a leveraged deal, this is cash," he said.

"I don't believe in leverage. I am an old-fashioned businessman. Cash is king and businesses must be run sensibly. We shouldn't burden the club. If that was the case it wouldn't be fair on the club."

The Malaysian entrepreneur, who is also co-owner Team Lotus Formula One, has quashed fears manager Neil Warnock could be replaced amid the new regime.

Fernandes believes he and Warnock are on the same wavelength and, having been overwhelmed by fans' support of the team boss, his position is in no doubt.

"There's a deep love for Neil here, it's very apparent. They just want a chairman who will give the manager support," said Fernandes.
Warnock similarities

"In many ways we're very similar. We're a bit impulsive sometimes, we probably say the wrong thing and upset a few people along the way. But I love his passion.

"I'm a bit more controlled than him but he's ever so infectious. He's just black and white. You don't see any hidden agenda and what you see is what you get.

"He's coming to the end of his career and this is a chance to really build something. I hope he'll stay here for a long, long time."

Fernandes also has his sights set on improving the club's youth development.

He said: "I think it's important not just to throw money at the game, some of that money should go into the development side and that is key for me, to build a good academy and good scouting system and really get the grass roots right."
