Prabowo pushes for regulatory reform to create jobs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for regulatory reform and accelerated business licensing to support job creation and strengthen the national economy.

"All officials from all ministries and institutions are looking for ways to improve the system, reduce inefficiencies, and simplify licensing—do not make it difficult,” he stated at the handover ceremony for administrative fines and state financial recoveries at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Prabowo said he had received complaints from businesses about the long wait for permits and licenses.

Therefore, the President asked Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to establish a special deregulation task force to simplify various overlapping regulations.

He emphasized that businesses that operate properly must be given full support so they can create jobs and strengthen the national economy.

"Entrepreneurs must be helped; they must be supported. We will discipline the naughty ones, but the good ones, those who are truly willing to work, must be helped,” he stated.

Prabowo also urged all levels of government to continue improving the system and increasing efficiency for the prosperity of the people.

Amid global economic challenges and uncertainty, Indonesia's employment sector remains solid.

As of February 2026, employment in Indonesia showed positive growth, with 147.67 million people employed—an increase of 1.89 million from the previous year, based on data from the Ministry of Manpower.

The unemployment rate reached its lowest point since 1998 at 4.76 percent in February 2025.

Job creation was significant, with 3.59 million new jobs added.

The main employment sectors are agriculture, trade, and manufacturing, with informal workers accounting for 57.70 percent as of November 2025.
