The Toughest Physics Exam on Earth Just Ended. Here's Who Won.
The 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2025), widely recognized as the most rigorous physics competition for high school students, just concluded-and the results are nothing short of electrifying.
Team USA topped the global leaderboard, edging out perennial powerhouses China (#2), Hong Kong (#3), Korea (#4), and India (#5).
The IPhO challenges students with problems so complex that many physics undergraduates would struggle with them. Yet, these young minds from around the world tackled them head-on and triumphed.
A total of 37 students earned Gold Medals, with a striking demographic pattern:
- 33 (about 90%) of the gold medalists are of Asianorigin,
- 3 are from Eastern Europe, and
- 1 is from Israel.
These five Gold Medal winners of the 2025 US Physics Team are:
- Agastya Goel
- Allen Li
- Joshua Wang
- Feodor Yevtushenko
- Brian Zhang
Congratulations to all participants. The future of physics is in brilliant hands.
