Multinational forces conduct medevac drill at Super Garuda Shield 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and partner forces from the United States, Japan, Australia, and Canada honed air evacuation skills during a medical evacuation (medevac) drill at Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026.

In a press release issued Thursday, Sept. 3, the TNI Information Center stated that the drill aimed to improve tactical capabilities while strengthening multilateral ties between Indonesia and partner nations.

Held at the Army Combat Training Center in Martapura, South Sumatra, the exercise simulated the evacuation of a soldier wounded in combat. Field medics provided immediate first aid and secured the area while awaiting a medical extraction helicopter.

"The patient was subsequently transported via a Black Hawk helicopter to a fully equipped medical center, receiving continuous care throughout the flight," the TNI Information Center said.

According to the military, the exercise adhered strictly to standard operating procedures and safety protocols to protect participating personnel.

The TNI emphasized that the drill ensures life-saving capabilities can be effectively deployed during combat operations and humanitarian missions, highlighting a dual focus on combat readiness and personnel safety.

Super Garuda Shield 2026, running from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11 across Indonesia, is a major multilateral exercise involving 4,743 personnel from 21 countries.

Participating nations include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
