Ministry strengthens MRV to support climate action credibility

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment stated that it is strengthening the greenhouse gas emission Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system in the regions of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.

Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Governance at the ministry Ary Sudijanto said in a statement confirmed here on Tuesday that strengthening the MRV system is essential to ensuring the quality of measuring, monitoring, and verifying emission reduction actions in Indonesia.

“The MRV process is the backbone of our climate action credibility. We must ensure that data from the grassroots to the national level has the same integrity so that it can be held accountable internationally,” Sudijanto stated.

The strengthening effort was carried out through a national workshop based on Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) Instruments and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Control.

Sudijanto explained that the implementation of MRV under Presidential Regulation No. 110/2025 will directly affect the quality of emission reporting and the integrity of GHG emission reductions, both in achieving Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets and through NEK instruments.

“Therefore, through this workshop, participants will also receive the latest updates regarding Indonesia’s National Registry System (SRN) and the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK). Both systems serve as the backbone for data and information transparency in Indonesia’s climate change control efforts,” Sudijanto remarked.

Head of the South Sulawesi Provincial Environment and Forestry Office Kasman stated that the regional government continues to strengthen climate change mitigation efforts through sustainable development based on green and blue economy principles.

“We are encouraging investments that are not only labor-intensive but also environmentally sustainable,” Kasman said.

Kasman revealed that throughout 2024, South Sulawesi successfully implemented 620 climate change mitigation actions. Cumulatively, from 2010 to 2024, a total of 6,064 climate actions have been carried out in the province as part of the region’s commitment to reducing GHG emissions.
