Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman reaffirmed that the Indonesian government continues to create policies that support MSMEs and ride-hailing drivers to sustainably improve their welfare.

"Our main commitment is to drive improved welfare not only for online motorcycle taxi drivers, but also for micro, small, and medium enterprises in Indonesia," Maman said in Jakarta on Monday.

He made the statement while attending a 2026 World Cup final watch party alongside thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers, organized by the Ministry of MSMEs in Jakarta.

According to him, the event was not merely about watching a football match, but also carried a message from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the government's commitment to supporting lower-income groups.

He added that President Prabowo sent his regards to the drivers while reminding the entire cabinet to ensure that every government policy delivers tangible benefits to MSMEs.

The minister further said that synergy with ride-hailing companies is a key foundation to ensure various empowerment programs can run effectively in providing direct impact to drivers.

Therefore, he called on all stakeholders to build constructive partnerships based on the principles of fairness, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to growing together within the business ecosystem.

He emphasized that the Ministry of MSMEs' support for ride-hailing drivers reflects the government's commitment to formulating policies that support the welfare and empowerment of this group.

Maman assured that all policies currently being prepared target not only online motorcycle taxi drivers, but also all MSMEs as the primary drivers of the national economy.

"The president always reminds us, his cabinet, that we must support lower-income groups, including online motorcycle taxi drivers," he said.

The Indonesian government is currently drafting a presidential regulation as a legal framework to classify online motorcycle taxi drivers as MSME actors to strengthen protection and expand their access to empowerment programs.

The ministry tasked with overseeing the policy is also still under discussion, with options including the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, or the Ministry of MSMEs.
