Sandubaga Landfill in Mataram , West Nusa Tenggara Province. ANTARA/Nirkomala
Mataram (ANTARA) - The Mataram City Environmental Service in West Nusa Tenggara Province will soon conduct a trial of environmentally friendly waste processing using an incinerator.
"We will conduct the test this week by starting to use an incinerator for waste processing at the Sandubaga Landfill," Vidi Partisan Yuris Gamanjaya, Head of the Waste Division at the Mataram City Environmental Service (DLH), stated on Tuesday.
Gamanjaya explained that to conduct the trial, his team is currently accelerating the construction of an incinerator base, which was handed over by H. Moh. Ruslan Mataram Hospital.
The garbage earlier piled up at the Sandubaya TPS, around two thousand tons, has now been reduced to around one thousand tons, and road access to the incinerator is already available.
"We are conducting this trial to observe the environmental impact of waste processing using an incinerator, including smoke and other emissions," he remarked.
He noted that the incinerator from Ruslan Hospital has a capacity of 5 to 10 tons and during the burning process, no residue remains, as the waste is incinerated to ash.
Meanwhile, regarding the quality of the incinerator's smoke, DLH Mataram is also preparing a laboratory to monitor the air quality emitted by the machine.
This aims to ensure that emissions comply with existing environmental quality standards.
Although the incinerator's operation has already been permitted by the Ministry of Environment and confirmed to be non-polluting, he emphasized, "A laboratory must still be present to ensure air quality."
