MIRI: A 48-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot point-blank by two men while having dinner with his family in a house at Taman Tunku here on Monday night.

The man, who, at press time, was in the intensive care unit of Miri Hospital and in critical condition, was shot on his right cheek and shoulder.

Deputy Miri police chief Superintendent Ismail Toh Paduka Idris confirmed the case when contacted yesterday.

Prior to the 8.30pm incident, the man and his wife together with their daughters were having dinner at home.

Two men stormed into the house through the main door and fired what police believed to be a shotgun.

The victim was hit on his cheek and shoulder. Both main door and gate of the house were said to be unlocked at the time.

The two men were said to be wearing black jackets and masks and came to the house driving a dark coloured Kancil.

Immediately after firing the shot, the duo ran out of the house, probably leaving their victim, said to be a school canteen operator, for dead.

Family members rushed the injured man to the hospital within minutes of the departure of his attackers.

Police are investigating the motive of the shooting case which has been classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Those with information on the case are urged to contact ASP Zainan Azili Abdul Latif (013-8344556).
