Hiddink enters Russia talks eyeing Liverpool post

Guus Hiddink is set to enter talks with the Russian Football Union over his contract status.

The Daily Mail says the Dutchman has consistently said he will wait until the federation elects a new president next month before considering a return to club management.

But with Rafa Benitez coming under increased pressure at Liverpool, Hiddink is ready to meet this week with the man who is the strong favourite to win the poll on February 3, Sergey Fursenko.

The 63-year-old's agent, Cees van Nieuwenhuizen said: "Guus intends to meet the new president as the last one - Vitaly Mutko - suggested in the autumn that Hiddink continue his work with Russia for two more years.

"And the new president, who is likely to be Sergey Fursenko, wants to discuss the future with Guus. I can say that Hiddink is ready to fly to Russia at any moment, as soon as his employer wants to meet."

Van Nieuwenhuizen said it was not Hiddink's concern that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had stopped paying his huge £6.25milllion a year salary, but it is hard to see how the Russian FA will meet payments without cash injections from elsewhere.
