Malaysia’s IPO market may see bigger deals in second half 2014

The second half of the year may see even bigger deals compared to 2012 with respect to Malaysia's initial public offering (IPO) market.

Steven R. Clayton, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Country Officer of J.P. Morgan for Malaysia, said the IPO market is expected to see more activity in the second half of this year after staying quiet in 2013.

"There were only a handful of large IPOs that dominated the Malaysian market.

"The deals that are forthcoming will be similar or larger in size compared to the big IPOs of 2012, such as the Felda Global Ventures," he said today.

Clayton said there will be continued interest from foreigners, with investors looking to buy up stakes in Malaysian companies.

This, he added, is also in view of the positive foreign sentiment for the Malaysian market in the second half of the year on the back of a strong ratings outlook.

"This is premised on the government continuing its policies as announced in the last budget.

"If the government does what it announced in the last budget, such as the subsidy cuts implemented to date, that would be good for the ratings outlook," Clayton said. – Bernama, February 19, 2014.

Another record year for IPOs

PROMISING MARKET: JP Morgan says 2014 issues are likely to be as huge as, or bigger than, the RM22.1 billion in 2012


MALAYSIA is set to see another record year for initial public offerings (IPOs), with substantial issues slated for the second half of the year.

According to JP Morgan, the promising pipeline of IPOs this year is likely to be as huge as the RM22.1 billion issued in 2012, if not bigger.

Back then, Malaysia had risen to become the world's fourth-largest centre for IPOs, overtaking financial hubs including London, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

"The pipeline for IPOs in Malaysia (this year) is very substantial. Some of the individual issues are very big.

"We are expecting healthy IPO activities," said JP Morgan chief executive officer and senior country officer (Malaysia) Steven R. Clayton.

"Possibly in the second half of this year, you can see a lot more IPO activities across all sectors, and some of the IPOs slipping into 2015."

Reuters recently reported that Malaysia's IPO market could more than double this year to US$7.1 billion (RM23.45 billion), with 14 IPOs that bankers have flagged as likely to occur this year.

They include 1Malaysia Development Bhd, Boustead Plantations Bhd, Icon Offshore Bhd, Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd, Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Themed Attractions and Resorts Bhd and Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd.

On whether any of them will be as big as Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd's (FGV) IPO, Clayton said: "We expect a few IPOs to be similar to FGV's, if not bigger."

FGV was the world's second-largest IPO in 2012 after giant social networking site Facebook Inc.

Clayton said the excitement in the local equity market will entice foreign interest, which is currently on a downtrend due to the negative sentiment towards emerging markets.

"Foreign sentiment towards emerging markets is negative, and Malaysia, being neutral, is probably slightly better than the others. But we believe there's going to be a positive change towards the second half of the year.

"If the United States Federal Reserve tapering continues at this pace, appetite for Malaysian transactions will continue to pick up."

On another development, Clayton said Malaysia is poised to achieve a 5.5 per cent growth rate in gross domestic product this year, backed by stronger export activity and capital expenditure-driven factors.

"We are also expecting a narrowing of net imports, with exports starting to pick up," he said, adding that consumer-driven sectors, on the other hand, will slow down this year.

He said JP Morgan is giving Malaysia a "positive" outlook, driven by various government policies announced in the 2014 Budget.

Previously, Malaysia had mixed ratings outlook, ranging from "positive" to "negative", given by three rating agencies.

He said a "negative" outlook does not mean a "downgrade".

"There's misinformation about the rating agencies. One rating agency gave Malaysia a 'negative' outlook, which is not a 'downgrade'.

"A 'downgrade' is when they actually announce a 'downgrade'. Another rating agency gave Malaysia a 'positive' outlook while the third rating agency has a 'stable' outlook for the country," he added.

AYS ni actually mmg public listed company dah.Saham AYS yg dioffer kat Miti tu actually utk increase capital for the company.

So,sbb kan company ni dah mmg public listed,ko blh la evaluate company ni base pada maklumat yg tersedia di

Bursa Malaysia.
