SapuraKencana falls on debut after merger

SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd, Malaysia’s second-largest oil and gas services provider, fell on its Kuala Lumpur debut, a day after Asian stocks slumped the most this year amid mounting concern over international fallout from Europe’s debt crisis.

The stock dropped 6.3 per cent to RM2.10 from its reference price of RM2.24 at the close, compared with a 0.5 per cent gain in the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index. It was the most active stock with 206 million shares traded. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index slid 2.5 per cent yesterday as Greece’s move to call new elections increased concern it will leave the euro and derail efforts to contain the region’s financial problems.

“For the past week, market sentiment hasn’t been that good basically due to the worries on the Europe side,” Teh Kian Yeong, an analyst at K&N Kenanga Holdings Bhd, said by phone in Kuala Lumpur today. “This is a stock we actually like. After the merger, their earnings growth is stronger and their balance sheet is stronger as well.”

The Kuala Lumpur-based group was formed through the RM11.9 billion merger between SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Kencana Petroleum Bhd Before the merger, the companies won rights to jointly develop their first oilfield off Malaysia’s eastern coast with Petrofac Ltd. By joining forces, they want to bid for larger contracts and further expand into exploration.

This comes after Malaysia said it would offer tax incentives to encourage the development of unviable marginal oil and gas fields to boost the Southeast Asian nation’s energy reserves.

With a market value of RM10.5 billion, SapuraKencana is now Malaysia’s second-biggest listed oil and gas services provider after Bumi Armada Bhd.

Kenanga rates SapuraKencana outperform with a price estimate of RM2.63, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. This means the stock’s total return is expected to exceed 10 per cent over 12 months, Teh said.

SapuraKencana, which has an order book of RM13.5 billion, is bidding for RM7 billion of contracts overseas and at home, Group Chief Executive Officer Shahril Shamsuddin said yesterday. It has allocated US$1.5 billion for capital expenditure over three years for new drilling rigs and pipe-laying vessels, he said. -- Bloomberg

Felda Global set for more cornerstone investors

FELDA tawar pelabur ternama sertai IPO
Oleh Ahmad Farizal Hajat

2012/05/17

Felda Global set for more cornerstone investors
By Zaidi Isham Ismail

FELDA Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGVH), fresh from announcing commodities group Louis Dreyfus as its new strategic investor, is set to receive a set of new cornerstone investors.

Cornerstone investors are entities with large amounts to invest such as investment companies, mutual funds, brokerages, insurance companies, pension funds, investment banks and endowment funds.

Institutional investors are covered by fewer protective regulations because it is assumed that they are more knowledgeable and better able to protect themselves and account for a majority of overall volume.

According to a Reuters report, US-based Fidelity Investments and Hong Kong's Value Partners have agreed to make cornerstone investments in the proposed listing of FGVH slated by end-June.

"The initial public offering (IPO) of the world's second-largest palm oil operator which is expected to raise more than US$3 billion (RM9.33 billion) has also attracted investment commitments from Malaysian tycoon Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, Malaysia's state-owned fund manager Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

"There are a few more," said the source, who declined to be named as the discussions are private.

He added that the exact allocations for the cornerstone investors will only be finalised in the coming days.

When contacted, FGVH president and chief executive officer Datuk Sabri Ahmad did not deny or confirm.

FGVH is preparing to sell shares in what promises to be the world's second-largest IPO so far this year after Facebook.

Commodities group Louis Dreyfus said on Monday it has agreed to take a minority stake in Felda, adding that it is conditional upon the successful June stock market float.

The firm will likely take a 2.5 per cent stake in Felda, worth close to US$150 million, the source said.

The proposed transaction involves both a strategic cornerstone investment in the IPO and the creation of two joint ventures.

Under the IPO, Felda Global Ventures Holdings which is wholly-owned by the state-run Felda (Federal Land Development Authority) will offer 3.6 billion shares valued at RM4.75 which will have a market capitalisation of RM17 billion.

After the IPO, Felda will own 37 per cent while the remaining 63 per cent will be spread out among settlers (2.5 per cent), Felda employees (3 per cent), foreign investors (5 per cent) and institutional investors like PNB, EPF, Lembaga Tabung Haji, Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pencen, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and others (45.5 per cent).

Gas Malaysia to raise US$234m in IPOs
Published: 2012/05/18

Gas Malaysia Bhd, part of an energy distributor linked to Malaysian billionaire Syed Mokhtar Al- Bukhary, said it wants to raise about RM734 million (US$234 million) in an initial public offering in Kuala Lumpur.

Existing stockholders, including MMC Corp, plan to sell 333.8 million shares with an indicative price of RM2.20 each for individual investors, according to a listing prospectus released today. Pricing for institutions will be determined after a bidding process, Gas Malaysia said.

The IPO comes amid a resurgence in share sales in Malaysia, even though volatility in global stock markets has increased with concerns over potential international fallout from Greece’s debt crisis. Palm oil planter Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd. may raise as much as US$3.3 billion next month, two people familiar with the matter said on April 27. Hospital operator Integrated Healthcare Holdings Sdn Bhd also plans to soon list.

Gas Malaysia is the sole licensed seller of natural gas in Peninsular Malaysia, the listing document shows. It also has rights to supply liquefied petroleum gas in the region.

The Selangor-based company plans to pay at least 75 percent of profit as dividends from 2013, according to the prospectus. It intends to distribute all the earnings net of tax this year as dividend, it said.

Maybank Investment Bank Bhd is managing the share sale, helped by Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd and Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd.

MMC, controlled by Syed Mokhtar, fell 0.4 per cent to RM2.63 at 11 a.m. in Kuala Lumpur trading today, compared with a 0.8 percent drop in the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index. - Bloomberg
