Indonesia's July tourist arrivals rise 10 percent from June

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia welcomed 1.52 million international tourists in July, up 9.99 percent from June and 2.95 percent from a year earlier, with Malaysians accounting for the largest share, Indonesia Statistics (BPS) said.

International arrivals through Indonesia’s main entry points totaled 1,362,812, while another 162,225 entered through border crossings, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said Tuesday.

Indonesia recorded 8.98 million international tourist arrivals in the first seven months of 2026, up 5.23 percent from a year earlier and the highest since 2020, Hartono said.

Malaysian passport holders accounted for 15 percent of July arrivals, followed by Australians at 12.34 percent and Chinese visitors at 10.28 percent.

Arrivals from Australia and China rose 12.3 percent and 33.40 percent, respectively, from June, while arrivals from Malaysia fell 11.59 percent.

Year-on-year, however, arrivals from all three countries increased, with Malaysia up 7.83 percent, Australia 8.67 percent and China 8.45 percent.

“Based on the main entry points, most international tourists arrived through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, mainly Australians,” Hartono said.

Domestic tourism also grew, with Indonesians making 107.44 million domestic trips in July, up 0.23 percent from June and 7.23 percent from a year earlier.

Domestic trips totaled 737.85 million from January to July 2026, up 3.34 percent from the same period last year.

Indonesians made 802,670 trips abroad in July, up 4.68 percent from June and 7.73 percent from a year earlier.

Outbound trips totaled 5.26 million in the first seven months, down 3.25 percent from the same period last year.

Hartono attributed July’s increase to the end of school holidays, Umrah pilgrimages, particularly through Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Riau, and events in Southeast Asia and China.
