Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government plans to speed up the implementation of priority programs by establishing a special task force, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced on Friday.
The task force will involve the Ministry of Finance, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry. It is expected to ensure that the budget for President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs is implemented effectively.
Sadewa said the team will focus on programs that have faced delays, particularly those with low budget absorption and limited impact on development.
He emphasized that the task force’s work will deliver not only short-term benefits but also significant long-term gains for Indonesia’s economy.
Addressing the contraction in tax revenue during the first half of 2025, Sadewa noted that a slowdown in state spending had also weighed on tax performance.
"Perhaps, in the third quarter, spending and the economy slowed down a bit. Nevertheless, I believe everything will turn around in October, November, and December," he said.
Despite current challenges, Sadewa expressed optimism that revenue and growth targets remain achievable.
"Even if actual revenue falls short of projections, the government still has adequate fiscal space," he said. "If all the programs run as planned, I believe the targets will be achieved and economic growth will reach the levels we predicted earlier."
President Prabowo has set eight priority programs for 2026:
Food security: Rp164.4 trillion (around US$10 billion)
Energy security: Rp402.4 trillion
Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program: Rp335 trillion
Education: Rp757.8 trillion
Health: Rp244 trillion
Village cooperatives: Rp181.8 trillion
Defense: Rp424.8 trillion
Investment acceleration: Rp530 trillion from the state budget and Rp720 trillion from the sovereign wealth fund Danantara
