Indonesia taps Brazil for semiconductor, aerospace expertise​

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Brazil are exploring cooperation in semiconductors, aerospace engineering and biofuels, with talks centered on partnerships between Indonesian universities and Brazil's State University of Campinas (Unicamp).

"We are pleased with the growing partnership between Indonesia and Brazil and hope cooperation between Unicamp and Indonesian universities delivers tangible benefits for both countries," Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto said.

Yuliarto made the remarks while receiving a Brazilian delegation in Jakarta on June 12, according to a ministry statement released on Saturday.

The minister also encouraged greater collaboration between Indonesian and Brazilian academics, including joint research projects involving university lecturers from both countries.


Brazil's Deputy Chief of Mission to Indonesia Rodrigo Alexandre Oliveira de Carvalho welcomed Indonesia's request for support in developing talent for strategic industries.

He said Unicamp is prepared to accept up to 10 Indonesian graduate students in cooperation with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

The proposed capacity-building program will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and integrated circuit development, sectors viewed as critical to future industrial competitiveness.

According to Carvalho, the initiative is part of Brazil's effort to help Indonesia develop skilled talent capable of supporting advanced technology industries.

Unicamp representative Marco Roberto Cavallari said Indonesian master's and doctoral students could study microfabrication, integrated circuit design and materials science in Brazil.

The initiative could also serve as a foundation for a future double-degree program between Unicamp and ITB.

Brazil is also discussing potential participation from major institutions and companies, including aerospace manufacturer Embraer, while both governments work to finalize an education cooperation agreement.
