Indonesia sets aside 62.9 hectares for Nusantara diplomatic zone

North Penajam Paser (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has allocated around 62.9 hectares of land for the development of a diplomatic compound in the new capital Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

Deputy for Planning and Land Affairs at the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Mia Amalia, said on Monday that the project is being coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry will relay development details to foreign embassies.

She noted that the compound will include residences, schools, commercial zones, and green spaces designed to support diplomatic activities in a comfortable, sustainable setting.

The diplomatic area will host embassies of Indonesia's partner nations. Bangladesh is among the first to express strong support for the project, which is targeted for operation by 2028.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Md Tarikul Islam, said that the embassy is ready to move to Nusantara.

He added that Bangladesh seeks cooperation with Indonesia in agriculture and agro-processing, sectors where the country has significant experience.

Islam also voiced optimism about expanding collaboration in Nusantara’s development, which adopts the forest city concept.
