Indonesia seeks to learn from China's agritech to boost productivity

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Transmigration is seeking to learn from China's agricultural technology and governance to boost productivity in transmigration areas and support national food security.

Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi stated that participants in the Development of Transmigration Areas in Indonesia seminar in Beijing will study water and irrigation management, land-use optimization, and agricultural mechanization to boost production efficiency.

"We hope that by learning directly in China, we can adapt this knowledge into several transmigration areas," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

He added that successful practices learned from China will be tailored to the social, economic, and resource conditions of Indonesia's transmigration areas to boost agricultural productivity.

In addition, participants will explore agricultural technologies that enhance resource efficiency and drive higher yields.

"We will learn about water management, irrigation, converting land into productive use, and raising productivity through farm machinery that offers better efficiency," he said.

The deputy minister noted that boosting agricultural productivity in transmigration areas is expected not only to strengthen national food security but also to create added value by developing signature products and increasing local incomes.

Beyond agriculture, participants will study village economic development by strengthening links between industry and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

This integration, he said, is essential to build stronger value chains, allowing local products to move beyond primary commodities.

Upon returning to Indonesia, participants will be tasked with drafting recommendations as a basis for policy development and pilot projects across transmigration areas.

The seminar, taking place from July 29 to August 11, 2026, in Beijing, Yichang, and Xiong'an, is part of ongoing cooperation between Indonesia and China in regional development and human resource capacity building.

Mauladi said all costs for organizing the seminar are fully covered by the Chinese government, meaning no Indonesian state budget funds are being used.
