Indonesia seeks China's support for AI development

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has invited China to support the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital talent in priority sectors such as fisheries and agriculture.

"One of our main focuses in AI development is in the fisheries and farming sectors. We hope China will support us," said Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid in a statement on Saturday.

Following her recent meeting with Chinese Ambassador Wang Lutong, Hafid said Indonesia is committed to expanding the use of AI, citing its adoption in several agricultural areas across the country.

She emphasized that China's support would be vital to improving the capabilities of AI-powered devices in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, ultimately boosting national production.

Hafid also noted that Indonesia and China will strengthen cooperation in digital infrastructure and explore university-level partnerships to accelerate digital transformation.

"We are also encouraging partnerships between Chinese companies and local governments," she said.

"In our digital transformation process, we are ready to cooperate with all countries, provided that Indonesian laws are respected," Hafid added.

Meanwhile, secretary general of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Ismail, highlighted the growing number of Indonesian digital talents studying at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

"We encourage further cooperation with Tsinghua University, including the possibility of opening a branch in Indonesia focused on AI studies," Ismail said, affirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting such collaborations.
