Indonesia prepares workers for growing green jobs demand

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is preparing skilled workers to meet growing demand for green jobs amid rapid growth in the electric vehicle industry, a deputy minister said.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Deputy Manpower Minister Afriansyah Noor said the transition to a green economy is inevitable, with the electric vehicle sector becoming a key pillar of the future green industry ecosystem.

He said rapid EV market growth has increased demand for workers skilled in electric automotive technology, digitalization, and green industry support services.

Data from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) showed EV sales rose from around 10,000 units in 2022 to more than 100,000 in 2025.

Afriansyah said the ministry is committed to developing quality human resources as part of Asta Cita, the government's eight main missions, and the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision under President Prabowo Subianto.

One effort includes cooperation with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia in vocational education and training.

In 2023, HMMI donated five vehicles to support automotive vocational training at the Bandung Vocational Training Center.

Afriansyah said collaboration between the government, industry, and training institutions is key to building a productive workforce for future green jobs.
