Indonesia boosts 3T internet access with new Nusantara Lima Satellite

PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) has officially commenced operations of the Nusantara Lima Satellite to accelerate the equal distribution of internet access across Indonesia, while also supporting connectivity needs in neighboring countries. Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Lima Satellite has officially commenced operations and is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating equitable internet access across Indonesia, especially in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions.

"Today, we proudly inaugurate the operation of the Nusantara Lima Satellite, an important symbol for our nation in maintaining our own national independence," President Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) Adi Rahman Adiwoso said during the inauguration ceremony here on Monday.

Adiwoso explained that the spacecraft is expected to meet connectivity needs in Indonesia and will also support national connectivity in the Philippines. PSN is currently exploring the potential use of the Nusantara Lima Satellite in Malaysia as well.

"This proves that our neighboring countries prioritize connectivity independence amid current dynamics of global politics," he said.

With a capacity of 160 Gbps, the utilization of the Nusantara Lima Satellite will be prioritized to support the equal distribution of internet access across Indonesia. The satellite is expected to be utilized by various sectors, ranging from government institutions and private companies to other organizations.

"We want to provide an option for Indonesia’s connectivity needs by ensuring that we have reliable and readily available capacity,” he stated.

Of the satellite's total capacity, PSN has allocated 20 Gbps each for use by the Philippines and Malaysia.

The satellite, also known as N5, is based on Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) technology, with a total capacity exceeding 160 Gbps. It utilizes the Boeing 702MP platform and is equipped with 101 Ka-band spot beams covering all regions of Indonesia.

To support N5 operations, PSN has prepared seven ground stations across Indonesia, located in Aceh, Bengkulu, Banjarmasin, Cikarang, Gresik, Kupang, and Tarakan.

With the operation of the satellite, Indonesia’s total satellite capacity will exceed 400 Gbps, making it the largest in the Asia-Pacific region.
