PETALING JAYA: Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh has hinted that the state assembly could be dissolved by the end of this month.
Rauf, who is also Melaka BN chairman, said the dissolution could come in “two more Fridays”, Berita Harian reported.
“It won’t be long (before it is dissolved). I said the other day that there were four more Fridays, but now there are only two Fridays left,” he was quoted as saying at a meet-and-greet session with residents of Kampung Bertam Ulu, Melaka, today.
Yesterday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi jokingly urged Rauf to speed up the announcement on the dissolution of the state assembly.
The deputy prime minister said this would give the people, particularly youths, an opportunity to determine the state’s future.
He also reminded Melaka BN to defend the 21 state seats won by the coalition in the 2021 election. Pakatan Harapan won five and Perikatan Nasional secured two seats in the 28-member state assembly.
The current term of the state assembly expires in December.
Zahid has given Rauf the mandate to negotiate cooperation with any party for the upcoming Melaka state election.
