Economic Census to drive targeted labor policies: Manpower Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census will provide key data for developing more targeted labor policies by mapping business activity, workforce use, job growth and skills needs, Manpower Minister Yassierli said.

The census will produce comprehensive data on business-sector development, economic activity distribution, business scales and workforce utilization, Yassierli said in a statement received Tuesday.

The data will help the government map job growth, workforce skills requirements and productivity needs, he said.

It will also identify sectors and regions with high job-creation potential while providing insight into changing competency demands in the labor market.

The data can help align vocational training with industrial needs, improve workforce placement, raise productivity and strengthen the competitiveness of businesses and workers, Yassierli said.

Statistics Indonesia Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stressed the importance of cross-sector cooperation to ensure the census succeeds during its May-to-August implementation period.

She outlined four priorities, including stronger coordination among Statistics Indonesia, the Manpower Ministry and the Industry Ministry, as well as commitments from business associations, industrial-estate managers and businesspeople.

She also called for broad awareness campaigns across the industrial sector and stronger inter-ministerial coordination to support smooth data collection, she said.
