19.11.2025 - Dewan Perwakilan Amerika Syarikat pada Selasa meluluskan rang undang-undang yang mewajibkan Jabatan Kehakiman (DOJ) mendedahkan fail berkaitan ahli kewangan dan pesalah seks yang disabitkan kesalahan, Jeffrey Epstein, selepas berbulan-bulan tertangguh ekoran tindakan pimpinan Republikan, lapor Xinhua. Dewan itu meluluskan Akta Ketelusan Fail Epstein dengan undian 427-1, hampir sebulat suara. Ketika ini, Dewan Perwakilan mempunyai 219 ahli Republikan dan 214 Demokrat.​

Rang undang-undang itu mewajibkan DOJ menerbitkan semua rekod, dokumen, komunikasi dan bahan siasatan tidak dikelaskan berhubung siasatan dan pendakwaan Epstein. Siapakah Jeffery Epstein?

Jeffrey Epstein, an American financier and convicted sex offender, initially embarked on his career in finance at the investment bank Bear Stearns before establishing his own firm, J. Epstein & Co. Prior to his 2008 conviction for sex crimes, Epstein amassed substantial wealth and maintained connections with prominent figures in finance, politics, and culture.

In April 2005, the police in Palm Beach, Florida initiated an investigation into Epstein following a complaint from a parent who alleged that he had molested her 14-year-old daughter. Subsequent investigative efforts, legal proceedings, and plea negotiations resulted in Epstein pleading guilty and being convicted in a Florida state court on June 30, 2008. He faced charges of soliciting a prostitute and procuring an underage girl for prostitution. Epstein served a 13-month sentence with work release as part of a plea agreement, while federal authorities identified 36 girls, some as young as 14 years old, who had been victimized.

Epstein faced a renewed arrest on July 6, 2019, on federal charges related to sex trafficking of minors in both Florida and New York. Tragically, he passed away on August 10, 2019, reportedly from hanging himself in his Manhattan prison cell. Just three weeks prior, Epstein had been discovered unconscious in his cell with neck injuries and was placed on suicide watch, a status that lasted for six days and ended twelve days before his death. An autopsy conducted on August 11 was inconclusive in determining the cause of death, although suicide remains the presumed cause.​
