Coinbase launches new platform for early access to digital assets

Coinbase Global (Nasdaq: COIN) is reviving the spirit of the 2017-18 token-sale wave by unveiling a platform that lets individual investors participate in digital-token offerings before formal listings. The company said it will host about one token sale a month on its new portal called Monad, adding that investors will submit purchase requests during a one-week window and then an algorithm will “distribute the tokens, aiming for broad and equitable allocation.”

To qualify, participants must be in good standing, fully registered, and compliant with Coinbase’s regime. Purchases will be paid in USD Coin (USDC), the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL). Project issuers will be evaluated on criteria including user interest, founding-team credentials, token-economics, and vesting schedules.

The move signals a pivot by Coinbase to broaden its revenue streams beyond trading fees and into primary issuance, potentially boosting its ecosystem control. The first offering will be from blockchain startup Monad, available next week.

With regulators in the U.S. and internationally scrutinizing token-sales, Coinbase’s structured approach — algorithmic allocation, eligibility filters — may help temper risk and restore retail access to early-stage token launches.
