Piping Designer

Job Brief Description
Candidate must have strong knowledge of piping design and drafting experience. He will
be responsible for designing complete piping systems in petrochemical plant. He shall
have strong knowledge in computer aided design software such as Micro-station and
AutoCAD. He shall be capable of reading engineering drawings, standards,
specifications and codes. Other duties may also include special tasks such as trouble
shooting piping issues, managing piping/mechanical intensive projects, training
colleagues, etc. Candidate must have Bachelor of Science degree or an Associate degree
in mechanical engineering from accredited university/college and at least 10 years of
experience in engineering and design. Position will be in engineering and design office
of a major petrochemical company (Saudi Chevron Phillips – S-Chem) in Jubail, Saudi
Arabia.

Job Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include but not limited to preparing, checking, reviewing, modifying
and approving of the following;


Piping and piping supports designs.

Man-Hours estimation, Material take off and cost estimates of projects.

Apply criteria for stress analysis to decide if stress analysis is needed.

Isometrics, plot plans, and underground drawings.

Engineering calculations for piping designs.

Hydro-testing requirements.

Defining QA requirements and developing QC’s.

Descriptive Scope of work for piping/mechanical jobs.
Other job responsibilities include the followings duties;
• Capable of efficiently using software such as Micro-Stations to draw his own designs
directly on in the system. He should be also capable of doing the work manually.
• Candidate must be capable of planning, prioritizing, and organizing his work
activities to achieve department objectives.
• Apply experience, engineering techniques, codes, standards, analysis calculations,
specification, company procedures, sound judgment, and design criteria to conduct
his work.
• Candidate shall be capable of collecting and searching for documents and drawings to
do his work. He shall be capable of reading P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, equipment layouts, underground drawings and any other types of drawings/documents needed to
do the work.
• Ensure that all piping works done at company are per approved specifications.
• Ensures designs are safe, sound, per approved standards, reliable, construct-able,
conveniently operable and done in economical manner.
• Field inspection of work activities, surveying and measurement taking of piping
systems.
• Work directly with project engineers, designers, CAD operators, and draft men to
ensure work activities are coordinated.
• Use software related to piping for design, calculations and preparation of design
packages.
• Review shop drawings,
• Research various design options for piping designs.
• Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the
evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques,
procedures and criteria.
• Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications,
calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes,
accepted engineering practices
Qualification
 An Associate degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited
college.
 Minimum of 10 years of design experience with engineering firms or with design
offices.
 Capable of designing piping systems in petrochemical plant.
 Know the criteria for stress analysis and apply it.
 Very conversant in ASME B31.3 code.
 Knowledgeable of various grades of piping and plate materials both CS and SS.
 Very experienced in Micro-Station and Auto-Cad.
 Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
 Very experienced in Microsoft suite of applications.
 Capable of writing narrative scopes of works.
 Preferably able to drive a car with valid driving license.
