Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool.

The 30-year-old will link up with his new team-mates at Cobham for the beginning of pre-season on Monday (July 5).

'I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful,' said the Israeli international, who has signed a three-year contract.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season.'

Benayoun spent three seasons at Liverpool having first moved to the Premier League in 2005 when he joined West Ham from Spanish club Racing Santander.

The 5ft 8in midfielder captains his national team, and is comfortable either on the wing or behind the forward line.
The first chance to see Benayoun in a Chelsea shirt could come at Crystal Palace on July 17, in our first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Drogba admits calling Lukaku about joining him at Chelsea

Didier Drogba admits he's urged Anderlecht whizkid Romelu Lukaku to join him at Chelsea.

Nicolas Cornu, a press spokesman for the Belgian Football Association, asked Drogba about Lukaku during the World Cup finals in South Africa.

"Yes, I've even called him," Drogba told Cornu. "I got his phone number from Vincent Kompany.

"I told him - you have to sign for Chelsea."

Lukaku, 17, is rated as one of the most talented centre-forwards of his age group in the world and is already a member of the Belgium senior squad.

Tottenham face being priced out of the race for Chelsea Bosman prospect Joe Cole.

The News of the World says Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has another meeting with Cole's agent in the diary, but his wage demands are beyond Spurs' salary scale.

White Hart Lane's top earners pull in around £60,000 a week and Cole left Chelsea on just short of £80,000.

Lukaku, 6ft 4in and still growing, is being tipped to develop into another Drogba and must hope Chelsea either remain patient or try and agree a deal to sign him now and loan him back to Anderlecht for next season.

Juliano Belletti agrees Fluminense move after leaving Chelsea with former Blues pal Deco set to follow

Juliano Belletti has agreed a move to Brazilian side Fluminense and should be joined before his former Chelsea team-mate Deco before the weekend.

Belletti, 34, will sign a two-year contract subject to passing a medical following his release by the Barclays Premier League champions.

He had also been wanted by Fluminense's Rio de Janeiro rivals Flamengo.

The club hope Deco will follow on Thursday, though the 32-year-old's release by Chelsea still has not been formally confirmed.

Former Barcelona playmaker Deco has a year left on his Stamford Bridge contract, but it is understood Chelsea are prepared to let him leave on a free to be closer to his sons in Rio
